This privacy policy explains what information Parted Magic LLC collects when you visit partedmagic.com or purchase Parted Magic, how that information is used, and the choices you have. We have written this policy in plain language and kept it short on purpose. If anything is unclear, email sales@partedmagic.com.
Who we are
Parted Magic LLC, PO Box 165, Waupaca, WI 54981, USA. We operate partedmagic.com and the Parted Magic store at partedmagic.com/store.
What we collect and why
When you browse the site
Our web server logs standard request information: IP address, browser user agent, requested URL, referring URL, and timestamp. We use these logs for security monitoring and to diagnose problems. Logs rotate on a normal schedule and are not used for any other purpose.
We use Google Site Kit, which loads Google Analytics and Google Search Console on the site. This means Google receives information about your visit, including IP address, pages viewed, and device and browser details. We use the aggregated data Google reports back to us to understand which pages people read and to improve the site. We do not use Google Analytics for advertising, do not run AdSense, and do not share data with Google’s advertising products. To opt out, install the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on or block analytics in your browser.
When you purchase
To process your purchase, we collect: name, email address, billing address (where required for tax or processor compliance), the license tier you bought, the date and amount of each transaction, and a token or identifier returned by your payment processor. We do not collect or store credit card numbers — those go directly to the payment processor.
We use this information to deliver the software you bought, send order confirmations and renewal notices, provide support when you contact us, comply with tax and accounting obligations, and (in the case of payment disputes) respond to chargebacks.
When you contact us
If you email sales@partedmagic.com or reply to your order confirmation, we receive your email address and whatever you write. We keep that correspondence so we have context if you contact us again. We do not add support correspondence to a marketing list.
Who we share data with
We share the minimum necessary data with a small set of service providers:
- PayPal and Stripe — process your payment. Each receives your name, email, billing address (as required by the processor), and transaction details. Their handling of that data is governed by their own privacy policies: PayPal Privacy Statement, Stripe Privacy Policy.
- Google — receives analytics data as described above. See the Google Privacy Policy.
- Our hosting provider — operates the server that runs the site and stores customer records. Data is encrypted in transit (HTTPS) and the server is access-controlled.
We do not sell your personal data. We do not share it with advertising networks, data brokers, or third-party marketers. We may disclose data if required by law (a valid subpoena, court order, or equivalent legal process) and we will tell you about it if we are legally permitted to do so.
We send only transactional email: order confirmations, download links, renewal notices, and replies to support inquiries you initiate. We do not run a marketing newsletter and do not send promotional email. You cannot accidentally end up on a marketing list because we don’t have one.
How long we keep your data
We keep your customer account and purchase history indefinitely, because people often come back years after their purchase to download the version they bought or check what they paid. Deleting old records would punish those returning customers.
If you want your account and purchase history deleted, email sales@partedmagic.com from the address on the account and we will delete it. We may retain minimal transaction records where tax law or chargeback dispute periods require it, but the personal data attached to those records will be removed.
Your rights
Regardless of where you live, you can email sales@partedmagic.com to:
- Ask what information we have about you
- Correct anything that’s wrong
- Request deletion of your account and purchase records
- Request an export of your data
If you are in the European Union, the United Kingdom, or California, you have additional rights under the GDPR, UK GDPR, and CCPA — including the right to object to processing, the right to data portability, and the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority. We treat all such requests the same way regardless of jurisdiction.
Cookies
The site and store use cookies for two purposes:
- Essential cookies — session cookies that keep your cart and login working while you use the store. These are required for the site to function and cannot be disabled.
- Analytics cookies — set by Google Analytics via Site Kit. Block these in your browser settings or with the Google opt-out add-on linked above.
Security
The site runs over HTTPS exclusively. Customer passwords are stored as hashes, not in cleartext. We do not store credit card information. The server is monitored by Imunify360 and Wordfence for intrusion attempts. No security setup is perfect; if you discover a vulnerability, email sales@partedmagic.com.
Children
Parted Magic is a product for IT professionals and serious hobbyists. The site is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children. If you believe a child has submitted information, contact us and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we will update the effective date at the top. Material changes will also be noted on the news page. We will not retroactively reduce your rights without your consent.
Governing law and contact
This policy is governed by the laws of the State of Wisconsin, USA, without regard to its conflict-of-laws provisions. For any privacy question, request, or concern:
