ntfsck from ntfsprogs-plus -- an NTFS checker for Linux. Scans the MFT, directory indexes and the allocation bitmap, repairs structural damage it can prove, and salvages orphaned records to a lost+found directory. It cannot replay the NTFS journal ($LogFile), and it neither reports nor clears the VolumeDirty flag -- those jobs, and boot-sector recovery, stay with ntfsfix and with chkdsk on Windows, which remains the authority for this filesystem. This package installs ONLY /usr/sbin/ntfsck and its man page. The ntfsprogs-plus source also builds mkntfs, ntfsresize, ntfsclone, ntfslabel, ntfsinfo and ntfscluster, which collide by name with the ntfs-3g tools already installed; they are deliberately not packaged. No fsck.ntfs symlink is created, so boot-time fsck -A never invokes this on its own. Recommended use: ntfsck -n /dev/sdXN first (read-only), and repair with -a only when -n reported findings -- repair mode resets the $LogFile restart area even on a healthy volume.
