Work has started on making Parted Magic Mount auto refresh. It's about 90% functional. I'm still getting some strange refreshing behavior, it's not going to cause data loss or anything like that. The buttons at the bottom were moved to the menu menu bar. The GUI should be 100% HIG compliant when we are through.

Removed “Parted Magic Save”. It's been broken for awhile and nobody noticed, so that brings me to the conclusion that nobody is using it. If this something that you need let us know. We'll try to fix it or write something more modern. I would assume most people are using “Save Session” instead.

mkgriso and pmagic_save_cd_session updated to support genisoimage EFI ISO rebuilding.
     Thanks to burdi01.
pmagic_fstab_daemon.sh, pmagic_mount, pmagic_sfill, pmagic_shred_zero, pmagic_wipe, pmagic_wipe_part, pmagic_wipefreespace, and pmagic_zap_mbr have been updated to support mmc. Some other minor bug fixes too.

A new program was added to help with computers not booting USB drives made with Unetbootin. Basically what it does is flashes the USB and formats it so BIOS sees it as USB-HDD. This program will wipe out ALL data on the USB. The new program is called USB Boot Flash and you can find it in the panel's System menu. Most of the formatting code was inspired by bootflash from Puppy Linux.

SpaceFM now manages the desktop. There are lots of advantages with SpaceFM's new desktop code. /root/Desktop is used for the icons, the icons are movable, and the right click menu works. With the right click menu you can create files, folders, mount devices, and alter the desktop settings. Rox-filer, feh, and imlib are not longer needed for the desktop, so they were removed. Saves 2MB on the overall size.

Fixed network detection in several /usr/bin/pmagic* net scripts. This was caused by writing the scripts using ifconfig from busybox and then including net-tools which handles ifconfig differently.

Archive day! Somewhere I messed up the mime settings for file-roller. When you double-click on an archive now it opens file-roller instead of decompressing it in the current directory. Libarchive was added so you can create and decompress .iso and .cpio files in file-roller. Parted Magic now supports about every compression format anybody would realistically use.

Lots of stuff has changed in the last few weeks. All of the packages in the source directory have been rebuilt to be installed/removed/upgraded with the package tools from Slackware. So, if you wanted to remove Firefox you would just type “removepkg mozilla-firefox-16.0.1-i486-1_pmagic.txz” for example. Of course you would have to unpack the squashfs, chroot into it, execute the package command, and then re-squashfs it. I've decided to copy Slackware's changelog style because after looking around the internet it seems like it makes the most sense for this project.

On a side note, I don't think Parted Magic mdraid support at boot has been better. I'm moving on to device mapper tomorrow. I think Parted Magic is almost a 100% up to date Linux system now.

07/12/2012: Updated exfat-utils-0.9.7, fuse-exfat-0.9.7, gparted-0.12.1-git from 07/12/2012. I personally enabled the use of exfat-utils. You can create, label, and check exfat with GParted now.

07/11/2012: Updated udev-182. Another all day project long overdue. I also went over the firmware directory which was a mess. If a device or a program no longer works, please let me know. I figured the udev update was going to be messy.

07/09/2012: Updated xorg-server-1.12.3. Improvements made to /usr/bin/pmagic_zap_mbr and /init.

07/08/2012: Updated btrfs-progs-20120708. Masked aufs /proc/mounts entries in init for mkfs.btrfs. I was getting the “mkfs.btrfs error checking mount status” nonsense. I should be able to update btrfs at will now. It took me a good 8 hours to figure this out. :/

07/07/12: Updated pciutils-3.1.10, smartmontools-5.43. Added tango-icon-theme-0.8.90. I pretty much deleted the entire icon directory and reworked it from scratch. The overall appearance is more consistent. Most of the /usr/bin/pmagic* scripts needed to be reworked for the icon change.

07/03/12: Updated linux-3.4.4. Added “setterm -blank 0 -powersave off -powerdown 0 &” to /root/.xinitrc. New Fail Safe boot option “Load NVIDIA”. This loads the nvidia kernel module and blacklists nouveau. You can do the same thing by adding “blacklist=nouveau nvidia=yes” to any boot loader's append line. You need the NVIDIA packages found on partedmagic.com to load the nvidia kernel module.

Rearranged some of the menu entries because they were in the wrong category. Added Erase Disk and Clonezilla to the desktop. A lot of people seem to have trouble finding them in the panel menu.

06/23/12: Updated conky-1.9.0. Added libmcs-0.7.2, libmowgli-0.7.1. Reverted back to module init tools. For some reason kmod isn't blacklisting modules and hangs the system when depmod is executed while /lib/modules is a union. I'm sure these issues are my fault, but I need some time to sort it out. Kmod is NOT a drop in replacement for module-init-tools.

06/22/12: Updated xz-5.0.4. Fixed problem when the NVIDIA packages are installed on a non NVIDIA system. Added option to put squashfs.ko in initrd.img/lib if your custom kernel has squashfs built as a module. Parted Magic's kernel modules are in a squashfs, so that puts the cart in front of the horse. The kernel document also states this now.

06/21/12: Updated psmisc-22.18, clamav-0.97.5, ethtool-3.4.1. This one was a pain in the butt. I spent a good part of the day building the nVidia drivers. The source was adapted from some stuff I found on slackbuilds.org. I'll post the updated kernel drivers every time the kernel is updated. The drivers are located here: http://beefdrapes.partedmagic.com/packages/extra/ . Just put these packages in pmagic/pmodules and use the “Kill Nouveau” option in the failsafe menu. There is also a new option in the Extras boot menu. You can start Nwipe at boot without starting X. There is also an option to reboot when Nwipe is closed.
